Tech & Desk / Buying guide
Quick answer. Measure the desk edge, underside and rear clearance before choosing a mount.
Measure where the clamp will go
Choose the actual mounting position. Measure the thickness there, then slide a ruler under the edge to see how much flat surface is available before a drawer, frame or cable tray gets in the way. A beveled edge changes where the clamp can sit flush. Compare the readings with the installation drawing for the exact mount.
Check the screen and desk together
Write down the monitor model, its weight without the stand and its mounting hole pattern. Compare those details with the arm maker’s compatibility instructions. Check the desk maker’s guidance before clamping onto glass, hollow construction or any surface with mounting restrictions.
Leave room for movement
Put a piece of tape where you want the screen to sit. Check whether the arm can reach that point and still fold without hitting the wall. Include cable slack and the height of any shelf above the monitor. A grommet mount needs its own suitable hole and clearance underneath.
