Kitchen & Dining / Buying guide
Quick answer. Choose for the whole routine, including carrying lunch, reheating, washing and storing the lids.
Follow one meal from packing to cleanup
Check the weight of a filled container if you carry lunch. Look up the manufacturer’s directions for the exact base and lid before using either in a microwave, oven, freezer or dishwasher. The two parts can have different instructions.
Match the capacity and closure
Measure a typical portion using a container you own, and leave enough space for the lid to close comfortably. For liquids, check that the closure is intended for that use and follow the maker’s instructions on how to carry it. Look for a seal you can reach and clean.
Check the cupboard before buying a set
Try stacking your existing containers with the lids off and on. Measure the shelf height and the bag you use most often. A few shared lid sizes can be easier to manage than a set with several incompatible shapes. Check whether the maker offers spare lids or seals.
