Home & Living / Buying guide
Quick answer. Measure the rack open and folded, and test whether you can move around it with laundry hanging.
Tape out the open dimensions
Mark the rack footprint on the floor, open the nearest doors and walk past with a laundry basket. Leave space for shirts and towels that extend beyond the rails. Compare more than one position if the rack will move between rooms.
Compare rail length and spacing
Count the longest things in a typical load. Towels need long uninterrupted rails, while small items can fit in shorter gaps. A tower takes less floor area but can place wet items close together. A folding wing rack uses more room and gives large items somewhere to spread.
Check what happens between washes
Measure the storage gap with the rack folded. Read the maker’s load guidance and look at how the wings or legs lock into place. Imagine carrying the rack to its drying spot and opening it after a normal wash. Ease of handling can matter more than the number of rails.
